Abstract:
The statement that {\em eigenvalues are continuous functions of the entries of matrices} is often seen in the literature. What does it really mean? We take a close look at the definition(s) of {\em eigenvalue continuity}. We also examine and discuss a standard proof of the Ger\v{s}gorin theorem using eigenvalue continuity.
